Greene County Board for the Developmentally Disabled
- Since 1979 the Board has provided grant funding to Not-for-Profit agencies which provide a variety of services to individuals with developmental disabilities.

- Employment Services
- Residential Services
- Day Habilitation
- PT, OT, and Speech Therapy
History of Services for Persons with Developmental Disabilities
- 1847-Missouri opens its first "Asylum for the insane"
- 1960's-Missouri develops "Regional Diagnostic Clinics" which were originally a kind of "mini-institution"
- These clinics evolved into today's Regional Centers
- 1969-Missouri Legislature passes Senate Bill 40 which allows counties to vote to enact a tax levy to support persons with developmental disabilities.
- 1970's-Group homes based on a custodial model.
- 1978-Greene County votes to enable the Senate Bill 40 legislation.
- 1980's-
- Movement toward independence and getting people with developmental disabilities involved in their communities.
- Movement away from custodial care and toward capacity building.
- 1990's-Missouri begins to utilize a Medicaid Waiver for persons with developmental disabilities.
- The waiver brought in additional Federal funding and led to an increase in the supports available to people in the community.
- Today-
- The prevailing philosophy is to promote individualized services through a comprehensive system which allows people with developmental disabilities to achieve greater independence, productivity and inclusion in their communities.
